Finding Each Other

you come to me from

the underside of the petals

and as I smile with surprise and

turn the daisy over to see you more clearly

suddenly

your breath presses against the back

of my neck, your belly at my spine

I fit myself closer

and while you fold me in,

the music of you, rich and dark,

pours out through your skin

into secret passages

somewhere between my vertebrae. . .

infusions of light

and accuracy and coherence

meet with the delicate complexities in me

and I sigh and laugh and

love the quiet invitation in your eyes

as I peek at you

from the underside

of this dark and difficult daisy
