One Night

by Trevor Garrud

This poem appears in Vol. 1 #1 (Winter 1998) of Men's Voices journal.
Men's Voices: So men can find their voices and speak their truths

Through the deepening mist of water

I see the outlines of myself

And memories

Wash upon the pebbled mind

Back and forth

In a rhythmic pitter patter of time

And I smile

As the droplets fall from a dark Heaven

In a never ending out pouring

So hard

As to be

Washed away

In a melting pot of history

Yet these sounds

Soothe the inner ache

And once again I can snuggle

Back

Into myself

Knowing that the warm breath

That lays upon my chest

Is yours
